Counseling is an educational process in how to live a better life—and at BEing There Counseling, we’ve been helping clients do just that for more than 30 years. Over time, we’ve gathered some of the most common questions people have asked—and a few we wished more people would ask. Our Marriage Counseling FAQ for Grand Junction is designed to help you explore what therapy can offer, because finding the right therapist is an opportunity to make meaningful, long-lasting improvements in your life.
Counseling is a process of learning emotional skills using real-life situations as your practice ground. It helps you gain insight, clarify values, take responsibility for yourself, improve relationships, and develop more effective strategies to create the life you want.
Our goal is to train you in the emotional skills you need to understand yourself and create harmony in all aspects of your life.
Few people have been taught the emotional skills needed to navigate relationship challenges. At BEing There Counseling, marriage counseling is an educational process that helps couples explore emotional patterns, understand underlying issues, and learn to build connection and intimacy.
It’s rarely too early — and it’s almost never too late. Whether you’re just starting to struggle or facing rooted conflicts, couples counseling can help you understand what’s happening and learn new skills to make the changes you desire.
No — in marriage or couples counseling, we do not take sides. We help each partner understand their own patterns and contributions, improve communication, and learn the emotional skills you need to create connection.
Many couples wonder what to expect from marriage counseling or what happens in couples therapy. Expect a focused, active process: both partners engage, reflect, and learn practical tools to strengthen connection and navigate conflict. It’s not just venting — it’s skill-building.
In the first marriage counseling session or couples therapy intake session, we get to know you both, explore your relationship history, discuss challenges, set ground rules for couples therapy, and begin clarifying goals.
Ground rules typically include mutual respect, taking turns speaking, avoiding blame, being honest, and practicing new skills both in and outside of sessions.
Yes — relationship counseling can still bring meaningful changes to your relationship. By working on your own self-awareness and building new emotional skills, you can positively shift how you engage with your partner.
We respect that medication can be helpful and necessary for some people. We work closely with clients and physicians to ensure medications support — not interfere with — the counseling process.
$220 per hour for individual and couples counseling (prorated in tenths of an hour). Group therapy, for clients ready to advance in their growth, is $66 per hour.
We require payment at the time of service but will provide paperwork so you can request reimbursement from your insurance company.
